NELGA Alumni Network Conference - Accra, Ghana, 7–11 July 2025

From 7 to 11 July 2025, the NELGA Alumni Network Conference convened in Accra, Ghana, bringing together alumni, regional coordinators, development partners, and stakeholders from across Africa. The conference aimed to strengthen alumni engagement, share lessons learned, and align strategies for the growth and sustainability of the network. The event featured keynote presentations, panel discussions, group work sessions, and networking activities, with a strong focus on governance, regional collaboration, resource mobilisation, and capacity building.
Key sessions highlighted the need for a formal governance framework for the NELGA Alumni Network, inclusive leadership, and the election of regional and continental representatives. Alumni engagement strategies emphasised regular communication, localised action plans, and alignment with continental objectives. Discussions on resource mobilisation explored diversified funding, including small grants, partnerships, and alumni contributions. Knowledge-sharing presentations showcased alumni projects impacting research, policy, and community development, alongside plans for a digital platform to document best practices.
The NELGA Southern Africa Secretariat from NUST, Prof Uchendu Eugene Chigbu (Director of ILLH and NELGA-SA Coordinator), Elvena Hayford (NELGA-SA Co-manager), and Penehafo Ricardo (NELGA-SA Co-manager) actively participated in the conference, contributing to discussions, knowledge sharing, and regional collaboration.
These activities reflect NUST and Namibia’s continued commitment to strengthening the NELGA Southern Africa framework, enhancing alumni engagement, and supporting initiatives that foster collaboration and capacity building across the continent.
