Public Lecture on Reimagining African Cities: Energy Transition and Urban Planning as Catalysts for Climate-Resilient Urban Futures in Namibia

08 August 2025 | 16h00 – 18h00 | DAPC Seminar Room, Architecture Building, NUST Lower Campus

The public lecture was a success, drawing an impressive turnout for a Friday afternoon event. The speaker, Ms. Eunice Shapange, was warmly received, with many participants noting the relevance and timeliness of her topic. Thought-provoking and lively discussions focused on the localisation of climate change and urban resilience as key pathways to achieving sustainable development. One stakeholder posed a critical question: “How do we communicate climate change so that those in the most remote parts of the country can understand and relate to it?” In response, several participants suggested practical strategies, such as using local radio stations to broadcast messages in various indigenous languages. Ms. Shapange also strongly advocated for community-led initiatives to drive meaningful change. Below are scenes from the public lecture.
