ILLH Hosts University of Tokyo Students with a Focus on Informal Settlement Upgrading

Research Students

On the 2nd of March 2026, the Institute for Land, Livelihoods and Housing (ILLH) at NUST welcomed 12 research students from the University of Tokyo's African Language Studies faculty, visiting as part of the MPJ Youth programme. The session introduced the students to Namibia's participatory and incremental approaches to informal settlement upgrading, with discussions covering tenure security, financing, and community-centred land governance. The visit sparked meaningful dialogue comparing urban development contexts in Japan and Namibia, reflecting ILLH's ongoing commitment to engaging the global academic community on land reform and informal settlement upgrading.

The visit reflects ILLH's commitment to fostering international academic partnerships and sharing Namibia's experience in land reform and urban development with a global audience.
