Workshop on development of a postgraduate Diploma

On 22 April 2026, the Institute for Land, Livelihoods and Housing facilitated a consultative workshop on the development of a new Postgraduate Diploma programme in informal settlement upgrading, with the Department of Architecture and Spatial Planning (DASP) and the Department of Land, Spatial and Surveying Sciences (DLSS) participating as key stakeholders. The successful session brought together academics and department representatives to revisit earlier programme proposals and open a broader conversation about how NUST can best respond to Namibia's growing informal settlement challenges. Participants agreed that a rigorous needs assessment is the essential next step before any programme is formalised, and that the programme (whatever shape it ultimately takes) should align with national priorities including the National Development Plan 6, SDG 11, and the AU Agenda 2063. The workshop marks an encouraging and productive step forward as NUST works toward building meaningful professional capacity in this critical area of urban development.
